Fracturing and Cracking
By: Andy H. and Ashlee
Fracturing and/or cracking is, in this case, when the gravestone or marker is in pieces (cracking) or is split, but not entirely cracked (fracturing). One of the most common causes of fracturing and/or cracking is frost action, which is when water enters the stone through fractures. The water then freezes and expands?, causing the stone to break and crack.
